I’ve visited the Dragon and Phoenix Waterfalls [龍鳳瀑布] of Zhongliao Township in Nantou County several times in the past few years. I’ve made frequent stops there on cycling trips through Zhongliao and taken my family there a few times for recreational hiking and firefly viewing. In recent years Nantou County Government has taken steps to turn the county into a tourist wonderland by initiating the construction of several projects like the one I’m featuring here. It’s often mandatory during company trips to stop at various locations either to or from the destination to shop for local specialties. After an employee outing to Kenting we were dropped off in Donggang [東港] in Pingtung County to go seafood shopping. I’m not much of a seafood fan so I didn’t walk away with any fresh seafood. I did however leave with a few decent photographs.
My friend and fellow blogger Mark Forman came down from Taichung for a much overdue photowalk around Jhongsing Village and Caotun. We had talked about having one here from way back when we had our photowalk around the Old Taichung Winery. Luckily, we were blessed with wonderful weather for our walks around morning markets, parks, and temples.
Why bats, Master Wayne?
Bats frighten me. It’s time my enemies share my dread.
Toying around with a DIY Bokeh project and some Christmas lights in front of a restaurant in Jhongsing Village. If you have a large aperture lens, try it!
I had been toying with the idea of a wireless flash setup since stumbling upon the Strobist blog and thumbing through their group on Flickr. I had briefly toyed with attaching my SB-600 external flash to a sync-cable [remember all those Daily Photos?], but quickly recognized the limitations of only being able to move the flash an arm’s length from the camera.
The idea of buying a set of Ebay Triggers crossed my mind, sure they’ve been reviewed as being unreliable, but at a fraction of the cost of Pocket Wizards do I really care? Taking photographs is just a hobby of mine, not a paid gig.
All of these thoughts about a wireless flash set-up were swirling in my mind when Cathy, her sister, and I were driving to Costco in Taichung. We passed a photography store on the way. I decided to stop in the store while Cathy and her sister began their shopping.
