Three pans for your weekend enjoyment

Danshui Panorama

First, a couple pans taken in Danshui a couple weeks ago. I haven’t been out much to explore the functions of my camera on account of running into a bit of a health problem recently, so here goes:

This pan tastes great! But you really don’t want to know how it was made… I went to the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and attempted to capture no less than 15 panoramas of the building. This was sadly the only one that came out remotely presentable. I learned a lot about what not to do when making pans of large buildings. If attempting to make a pan while facing the broadside of a building stand centered to that side otherwise your auto-stitching software will spew something awful out at you. Also, as a simple rule, shoot the same pan more than once, it stinks thinking you captured something wonderful in the field only to find when you get home that once pan-i-fied your new pan is completely unworkable (ghost images, tops of buildings cut off, ect).

  1. LOL. It looks like we’re going through the same learning process. My favorite so far is the “bowl” effect where the objects on the side of the building turn in toward the building, so the picture looks like a sombrero. That pan in Danshui is fantastic, really beautiful.

Pans may be a bitch, but when they turn out well, they are really enjoyable. On my FLICKR account the most viewed pics are babes, but #2 are the pans.

  2. Michael, I really like the pans you took from your recent trip to Keelung. I will have to make it out there someday when the weather is nice.

I have similar results on Flickr: Most Viewed #1&#2 booth babes and action figures (female figures) followed by pans.
