Our daughter Josie likes her Very Hungry Caterpillar toy almost as much as the sound of her voice. Lately she’s been entertaining herself by making sounds whether we’re talking to her or not. She is usually in a chatty mood for about a half an hour to an hour two to three times a day.

Yesterday, I took an afternoon ride up Baguashan. I wanted to practice climbing and keep the route brief to be home by five. A map of the route can be found on Bikemap.net. I would advise others to not take Chenggong #3 Road [成功三路] to the top as it goes through the Nangang Industrial Area and the air there isn’t as pleasant as other routes up. The 148 descending into Caotun is gorgeous and the road surface is excellent. Just be prepared to share the road with local sport bike enthusiasts.
No. 55

Assuming this is Eurema hecabe [菏氏黃蝶] and not Eurema blanda arsakia [台灣黃蝶] then that would bring the total number of different species photographed at 55.
If you’re an expert at identifying insects and would like a challenge please don’t hesitate to double check the identifications at the Taiwan’s Butterflies page.
UPDATE: Nope, definitely another Eurema blanda arsakia. Still at 54 species.

The now annual Nantou City Sand Sculpture Festival was held last month at its usual location along the Maoluo River. Cathy and I took my parents there during their visit to Taiwan during the Lunar New Year holiday. I am happy to report that this year was free of any incidents of vandalism. Here is a small collection of photographs from the event.

Here’s a photograph from Sunday’s ride up to Baguashan and Songboling. A map of the route can be found at Bikemap.net.

Everyone’s sick. Even Josie’s Uglydoll won’t be in the same room with us without a breathing mask on.
