Jiji Township

Our first stop was the Jiji Weir in Linwei Village. The purpse of its construction is to preserve water coming from the upper reaches of the Zhuoshui River for irrigation of farms in central and southern Taiwan. If you get as excited as I do for 3D models of dams and waterways… then you are in for a treat:

Our next stop was Jiji Train Station which had attracted quite a large Sunday crowd. The Jiji railway began operations in 1920 during the period of Japanese occupation. The railway’s original purpose was to transport power generators from Taguang Power Plant.

What visit would be complete without pictures riding the tanks? This is my second visit to Jiji Train Station, the first was when I visited Taiwan three summers ago for vacation. In the first picture I am confident when faced with an oncoming enemy… in the second photo I am scared shitless after finding out they fire back.

Jiji was located at the center of the destructive 921 Earthquake, its train station was heavily damaged, but was renovated using the same construction material to preserve this historical site.

Thanks for stopping in! The spider looks like an Orb Spider. I’m used to seeing Golden Orb Spiders in Taiwan, this one is a little different coloration.
